Fitness trends get a workout

A spin bike that tilts like a cyclist would on the road and a weighted drumstick workout are among the latest fitness trends but they should be taken with a grain of salt, a physiotherapist says.

Fitness professionals and enthusiasts gathered for a two-day expo in Toronto to test fitness equipment and learn about workout trends.

One of the exhibits was RealRyder, which is like a spin bike that leans and tilts to offer a real cycling experience.

“Is it necessary to enhance somebody’s workout? Probably not,” said Kevin Okamura, who checked out the workouts for CBC News. “But I like the idea that if somebody is really into competitive road racing and they’re looking for an off-season training experience, I think that’s not a bad application for it.”

In a Polynesian inspired, hip swaying workout called Kelani, participants groove to tropical beats.
