Stranger Turns Woman’s Epic Photoshopped Vacation Into Reality

One woman can look forward to a picture-perfect vacation thanks to a stranger who cared.

Sevelin Kinya, who lives in Nairobi, Kenya, and goes by “Seve Gat’s” on Facebook, made waves across the Internet earlier this month when she shared photos of herself Photoshopped into various locations in China — a country she’s wanted to visit for some time.

The amusing photos caught the attention of Sam Gichuru, a Kenyan man who runs startup accelerator Nailab. Gichuru rallied his friends and people on the Internet, and raised enough money to send Kinya on her dream vacation.

“If you were serious, I mean really serious, I have good news for you,” Gichuru wrote in a Facebook post. “Get your passport ready because your dreams are about to come true.”

Kinya, who’s always been curious about going to China, asked her friend to photoshop her into some tourist photos so she could feel like she was there, Gichuru told The Huffington Post. Kinya “visited” The Great Wall and The Temple of Heaven, among other landmarks in China.

Gichuru said he was moved by Kinya’s dream and called on friends as well as Facebook users to help bring it to life. People ended up contributing enough money for Kinya’s plane ticket, as well as funds toward her hotel stay, visa costs and personal expenses, Gichuru told HuffPost. Kinya will be seeing the country with a local tour guide.

The soon-to-be-traveler isn’t just getting a once-in-a-lifetime trip: Kinya, who had been looking for a job and has since met with the generous stranger, was also offered an internship at Kuhustle.com — a platform Gichuru helped build.

Kinya has applied for her passport and plans to visit China this summer.
